Inquiry Post 2

Where I Am and Where I Want to Go

In this Inquiry Project, I would like to explore the different teaching styles in art education and how they would support student learning with art being an interdisciplinary field.

What I Know:

The teaching styles in art education:

Developed approaches:

1. discipline based art education DBAE which focuses on aesthetics and art historical perspectives, with little studio time.

2. teaching for artistic behavior TAB gives students control of their own learning allowing them to explore individually.

3. visual culture art education VCAE focuses on the implications of current visual culture through the integration of these visuals in the classroom.

Still in development:

4. postmodern art education is a relatively new approach to the art pedagogy, and incorporates elements of DBAE and VCAE to promote multicultural approach to exploring art.

What I Want to Know:

I want to explore different iterations of art education approaches in interdisciplinary situations, across multiple subjects, and more specifically, the ways in which different approaches can be used to promote student learning and creativity while supporting other subject areas.

- Is there going to be an approach that is best suited for interdisciplinary art education?

- Will there be examples of interdisciplinary art education in the sciences and math fields?

- How can these new ideas be implemented in my classroom?
